In the not to distant past Toyota was known for making affordable, extremely well rounded sports cars. It's been a few years since Toyota has launched a new model focused on sportiness. Starting decades ago with cars such as the MR2, Celica, Corolla Coupe, and of course the legendary Supra, Toyota built some of the best budget minded sports cars that money could buy. The twin turbo Supra was certainly known as one of the greatest sports cars of the 90's and sadly was cut in 1998 followed shortly by Toyota cutting the MR2 and Celica from it's lineup. Now Toyota has excited fans of these cars once again by developing their newest concept known at the Toyota FT-86.
The FT-86 is a joint venture between Japanese carmanufacturers Subaru and Toyota. Subaru is in charge of the drive train for the concept and currently is providing it with a boxer four cylinder similar to what you would find in a Subaru Impreza. Although concrete details are not available about the FT-86 we do know a few things that are sure to excite. First is that the car will be a front engine, rear wheel drive setup which is the first car to have that setup from Toyota since the MR2. Toyota also promises the FT-86 will be jam packed with technology brought over from their Formula One racing experience. Although we don't know everything about the FT-86 yet we do know enough to excite enthusiasts about the possibility of such an awesome car at price people can actually afford.
