Every year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety puts new model year vehicles through a series of tests to gauge their safety. As a result of how a given vehicle performs during these tests, the IIHS gives it a rating. The IIHS’s two highest ratings are Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+.
To earn one of those ratings, a vehicle must earn the grade of “good” in five separate crashworthiness tests. The car’s front crash prevention system must also receive a rating of “advanced” or “superior.” To receive the top overall safety rating of Top Safety Pick+, an automobile’s headlights must get a mark of “acceptable” or “good” as well. When a car earns the designation of TSP or TSP+, it means the IIHS considers the vehicle to be one of the safest automobiles in its class.
Being Toyota dealers who are always concerned about safety, we’re proud to tell you that seven new Toyota models have received either the TSP or TSP+ designation for 2017, including the 2017 Toyota RAV4. In the minicar class, the 2017 Toyota Yaris earned the TSP award. The 2017 Toyota Avalon received the same distinction in the large car category.
The five remaining Toyota models received the Top Safety Pick+ rating. These vehicles and their respective classes are listed below:

· 2017 Toyota Prius, Small Cars
· 2017 Toyota Camry, Midsize Cars
· 2017 Toyota Prius v, Midsize Cars
· 2017 Toyota RAV4, Small SUVs
