2026 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Specs: All New With All-Wheel Drive
Since 2016, the RAV4 has offered a hybrid powertrain, but the majority of the SUV's lineup was fueled by gasoline. In 2021, Toyota engineers debuted a plug-in hybrid RAV4 model that used a combination of gas and electric energy. Some hybrid variants featured front-wheel drive, while others came with an AWD setup. In short, it was more difficult to get the best of all worlds in a single RAV4 build, but 2026 is setting a completely new standard.
The 2026 RAV4 Hybrid, now offered in fully HEV or PHEV configurations for even more invigorating drives, will feature:
- AWD access in every trim for increased traction and handling
- 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with hybrid or plug-in hybrid support
- Expanded trim selection that includes an all-new GR SPORT variant
- Boosted HEV horsepower of 236 with AWD or 226 horsepower with FWD
- Towing up to 3,500 pounds when AWD HEV or PHEV models are properly equipped
- Enhanced PHEV horsepower of 320 with standard AWD
- PHEV charging from 10% to 80% at DC fast-chargers in about 30 minutes.1

Official 2026 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid MPG ratings should be announced very soon, but based on 2025 metrics, RAV4 HEV powertrains will likely generate a wallet-friendly 41/38/39 MPG (City/Highway/Combined).2 The 2025 PHEV earned a stunning EPA-estimated 94 MPGe (Combined),3 and its 2026 MPGe should be even higher.
Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Range
The Toyota brand has personally tested new PHEV models, determining that this powertrain has increased its all-electric range from a manufacturer's estimated 42 miles in 2025 to 50 miles in 2026.4 New plug-in hybrid configurations will also decrease their charging times to as little as 30 minutes at public DC fast-chargers, thanks to the SUV's high-capacity drive battery and high-output charger.
Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Towing Capacity
All-wheel drive is now accessible in every HEV trim and standard on all PHEV models, which means that you could tow up to 3,500 pounds with your 2026 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid when it's properly equipped with trailering necessities. Get ready to adventure in the great outdoors, because 3,500 pounds is plenty to bring along motorcycles, Jet Skis, ATVs, or small boats.
Why All-Hybrid SUVs Matter: The Increasing Expense of Commuting

As of October 2025, the RAV4 Hybrid hasn't officially been released, so we aren't sure about its exterior length or width. However, Toyota has not announced any dimension changes, so we anticipate that the 2026 RAV4 Hybrid will measure around 180.9 inches long, 73 inches tall, and 67 inches high like its 2025 counterpart.
Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Interior
Built with two rows of spacious seats, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid interior is a great fit for small families, couples, or individuals with gear, groceries, or pets. The 2025 lineup offered 41 inches of front legroom and 37.8 inches of rear leg space, which we expect will carry over into 2026. These dimensions are ideal for taller drivers and should easily fit infant or toddler car seats.
Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Cargo Space
We're also not clear about the new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid cargo space, but if we look back at 2025 models, we see that 2026 variants will likely come with a gorgeous 37.6 cubic feet of standard trunk storage. Lay down the back seat of the new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid to enjoy what will probably amount to 69.8 cubic feet of space to pack boxes, lumber, or furniture.
