Model Highlights

The Volkswagen Eos model lineup returns with just two trim levels for 2010--Komfort and Lux. Both are powered by Volkswagen's venerable 2.0L 4-cylinder, which features direct injection and a turbocharger helping it make 200 horsepower and 207 lb-feet of torque. The Komfort is available as either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic, while the Lux comes only as an automatic. All Eos models are front-wheel drive. Rather than employing a conventional fabric convertible top, the Eos has a sophisticated folding hardtop arrangement that retracts neatly into the trunk in just 25 seconds with the press of a button. What's more, a panoramic sunroof is integrated into the top to allow plenty of light even when the top is up, allowing a variety of configuration options for enjoying the sun. Eos models with the automatic transmission use VW's Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG), a cleverly engineered double-clutch transmission, which makes no sacrifice in performance versus a manual gearbox and can be driven either in manual mode with steering-wheel shift paddles or like an automatic transmission. DSG is standard with the Lux model. Safety features include both side-impact airbags and head-thorax bags, along with driver and passenger front air bags and an automatic rollover protection system. Anti-lock brakes and VW's electronic stability program (ESP) are also standard. The Eos comes well equipped with cruise control, remote entry with alarm, power rearview mirrors with built-in supplemental LED turn signals, dual-zone climate control, a CD stereo and heated windshield washer nozzles and seats. The Lux trim adds 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers and interior walnut trim. Optional on the Komfort are 18-inch wheels, adaptive bi-xenon headlights, park distance control and a Navigation Infotainment Package with DVD playback, MP3 capability and multimedia socket for USB drive. In addition to those options, the Lux additionally offers a 10-channel, 600-watt audio system by Danish company Dynaudio. The Eos has a roomy interior with modest seating for two in back. Since the top stows into the trunk, cargo space measures 10.5 cubic feet with the top up but only 6.6 cubic feet with the top down.
